This Introduction to Primary Well Control teaches us that safety is always the primary concern. Here we cover the purpose of primary well control and see how potential hazards are avoided. We look at how well control is maintained with a column of drilling fluid providing the correct hydrostatic pressure. Key components of the system that conditions and pressurises the mud for circulating downhole are explained. We also explore how casing and wellhead systems provide support for the formation and form a conduit for fluids to return to the surface during drilling operations.
